Those who know me know that spots are just not something I suffer with, my skin has always been pretty clear with the odd little spot occasionally popping up when I haven't removed my makeup properly. I have always enjoyed skincare so this may be why!
Recently I was looking at my spending habits and realised that I spend an awful lot on skincare. My all time favourite Lancome moisturiser is £40, which I have always thought was so expensive, but what once was a treat purchase has turned into a daily moisturiser for me. I decided to change this. I had got a sample of a Clinique moisturiser in my Glamour magazine so I started to use this once my other had run out. After a few days my forehead was covered in bumps and I was developing huge spots, which is something I never experienced before and assumed that this product didn't agree with me.
The next time I was in town I headed for The Body Shop to try something cheaper. I picked up the vitamin E range as it was closest to my beloved moisturiser. I picked up the face wash, moisturising day cream and the toner as well as an eye cream. Over the next few weeks my skin was getting bumpier, it was a complete mystery to me as to why this could be happening. My skin is quite sensitive but I've never never broken out before.
After what feels like months of looking I found that all of these products contain wheat! Who would have thought that putting wheat on my face would have this reaction? and that it was even present in these products at all. Ultimately I contacted Lancome who make the cream I use and I was informed that this product doesn't contain wheat and nor did the Simple face wash I have been using from Christmas gifts. So I have bit the bullet and ordered my old skin care in as if it isn't broke, why fix it.
Whilst waiting for my new products to come in I have just used water on my face and the bumps are almost gone, although my face is now very dry! I have a box full of mini's, samples and products I have brought to try as some point so I am going through all of these and gifting those I can't use to friends and family.
Have you ever experienced anything like this? I would love to know

Udis Tiger Loaf
A couple weeks back was coeliac awareness week. Udis emailed us all a coupon for 50p off a loaf. Unfortunately and painfully for me being the avid that couponer I am, (honestly it's become an obsession, I blame the TV programme!) mine did not print correctly! Feeling sorry for myself I told my Mum how I finally found a gluten free coupon away from a food show and it failed to print. She shops on tesco.com for bulky items and said they were having 3 for 2 on gluten free food, so she picked me up some bits, including the loaf, which she got free as it was the cheapest item at £2.50.
This loaf is gluten and dairy free, as well as being suitable for vegetarians. However it does contain egg, so just be aware of that. I believe it may be glazed as it does have that type of texture. Each 25g slice is 66 calories, funnily enough the slices I cut seemed to be dead on 25g each time. This was a good amount of bread so I found that it was much less calorific than other free from breads at 99 calories a slice averagely.
The loaf itself is left whole and does look just like a tiger loaf. It was physically quite heavy when I picked it up, which left me unsure of what to expect, so I dusted off my very neglected bread knife and decided to have a piece of toast there and then. I found that the bread cut very cleanly and did not crumble apart, I assumed that they may not have pre sliced it to hide crumbliness, but this was not the case. Being a whole loaf makes it much more versatile too.
Flavour wise I think it may even top my beloved Genius bread, bold statement I know, of course it cannot completely replace it as they are two different types of bread but I found with this bread I made garlic bread for pasta, toast, a bacon and egg sandwiches, some lovely chunky solders for boiled eggs and it was great to dip in soup. I think it would make great croutons and fried bread too!
For being a longer life product I was apprehensive that the top would be rubbery, but this was not what I found. In fact I actually found toasting made it crisp right up to the point you would have thought it was a warm crispy loaf straight off a mainstream bakery. Which obviously is something we do not have access to, so I was really pleased with this being able to compromise a crispy bread which I miss so much! The texture overall was not dry and did not turn powdery in the mouth. I found it to be a denser bread but not in a stogy way. It was just about perfect for me, not too light, not dry and not too heavy going.
The only drawback I can see with this product is that the loaf is surprising large for a free from bread. I personally can get through this but I imagine those who will not be eating it amost daily will have to section it up and freeze it. Although you can have that issue with any product, free from or not!
If you spot one of these in store, I would say it is well worth its £2.50 and although that does sound pricey, this is one of the cheaper free from breads on the market. To prove how much I love it, I have actually got myself another loaf for this week and I am hoping to do some posts on all the ways I use it!

Plamil Organic Orange Chocolate with Cranberries
When I have a sweet tooth craving it tends to be for dark chocolate. This Plamil organic orange chocolate with cranberries certainly fixed a few cravings for me this week!
This 50g bar of chocolate is gluten free and certified nut free, vegetarian, vegan and organic. That's a lot of logos to fit on one little bar! The factory runs on 100% renewable energy too. This whole bar contains 267 calories but I personally got three servings from this one bar, so for a sweet treat it isn't too calorific.
The chocolate was a 60% so was not too bitter. I love dark chocolate but once you get above 75% I feel it gets way too dry. At 60% this was bitter enough to compliment the other flavours. I would not be doing this chocolate justice if I were to say it reminds me of a dark Terry's chocolate orange as the quality of this bar was superior to that by miles but is the closest thing I have tried that I can compare it to. Orange oil is distributed evenly throughout the bar and is just the right amount, enough to give an orange flavour to the bar but not overly so to the point of overwhelming the chocolate. The chocolate itself has a fabulous snap, which to me is a sign of great quality.
What I found the most interesting about this bar is the embedding of the juicy dried cranberries. I am a Hotel Chocolat lover so I am not a stranger of slabs of chocolate having other things embedded in the top, but typically it's more chocolate! The cranberries made a nice change, I have been really enjoying the ocean spray dried cranberries infused with juice, so really suited what I have been eating lately.
Being a Kent girl myself, finding out that these bars are produced in Folkestone is really fantastic as it is truly local produce for me! It's quite funny that it came in my Snackly box really, as it has had a bit of a round about journey!
Looking at all of their products online, they have a wide range of free from chocolate and confectionery spreads, there is even a egg free mayo! I am certainly interested in trying more from the range as they do have some very interesting products!
If you wanted to have a look for yourself, you can find their website here!

Prezzo - Gluten Free Menu
Eating out in town is something that I always find tricky, particularly in my town where it all seems to be Italian restaurants. When looking at the menus we found that Prezzo offered gluten free pasta and pizza, much like Pizza Express and a couple of other restaurants we have visited. Neither of us had tried Prezzo before so we thought it would be a good place to go.
For starters we had the antipasto, where James ate the bread and I had some of the meats and olives.
For mains I chose the gorgonzola pasta. This consisted of roasted seasoned chicken, which is by far the best chicken I have eaten out. It reminded me of left over Sunday roast chicken I like to put in toasties or rice dishes. Pancetta was the second meat incorporated in the dish and was quite smokey and added depth to the flavour. Leek and broccoli created a freshness to the dish, this was all blended in a parsley and cream sauce.
This dish is by far the the most original free from dish I have had out in a while. The ability to choose any pasta dish or pizza (except the meatballs) on the menu was quite refreshing, and left me quite overwhelmed with choice to be honest!
The pasta, very much like all gluten free pasta I have found before, is almost identical to regular pasta which is fantastic. All pasta dishes that are asked for gluten free use penne pasta. This is something I actually prefer as if they offered all the varieties I would be nervous that they had not given me the right type which could leave me unwell.
I really enjoyed the meal as a whole, the food is of high quality and the service and atmosphere was second to none. I found that on average it was £20 per head and portions were very large, so was fantastic value.
If you visit Prezzo, I would love to know what you tried.

Darling Spuds - Crushed Natural Sea Salt Crisps
One of my guilty pleasures in life. Crisps. I have raved on and on about how I love them so and how all my childhood photos of me, I always have crisps in my hand! Looking back, not always gluten free... oops! I really must dig those photos out and feature them on here one day, as I am sure they will give you all a good laugh!
Well today it was the turn of Darling Spuds, a brand I have heard of but never tried. This is what I find fantastic about snackly, always something new to try. This 18g bag was pretty perfect for me too, as although I do like to live a healthy lifestyle I have found that I cannot live without my crispy potato friends. At 88 calories I find I can get away with this everyday rather than a 200 calorie normal bag. Buying these in their bulk box is not too pricey either so is defiantly something I am considering.
These are certified gluten free, Vegetarian & Vegan friendly as well as no GMO's, so all round lovely! It also states it contains no allergens and only being potatoes, sun flower oil and sea salt it's very clean ingredients!
These crisps are thiner then Kettle Chip brand, I would say more like Tyrells. They are thinner which allows them to get a few of those almost translucent crispier, more flavoursome crisps in the pack which are my favourites. The sea salt was nice and chunky but is adhered to the crisp well, which gives a good punch of intense flavour every now and then. I found that the texture was crisp and had a good snap. So all round a very pleasurable experience.
I would most certainly buy these crisps again, however I think I will only be able to order them online, which is to be expected with the 18g bag but I am sure that the sharing bags were in Tesco at one point in time, but they do not seem to be any longer. Which is a shame as I cannot grab them in a supermarket. As I am sure the other flavours would be just as good and is something I would like to try. I will keep my eye out in garden centres food courts as these are the type of brands you find there! If not I really must remember when shopping online to order some!
Short and sweet review today!

Honeybuns - Congo Bar
In all honesty I feel bad for my poor
Congo Bar. I left the poor thing to be the last thing to try and was
convinced that I wouldn't enjoy it half as much as the others as it
wasn't oozing chocolate and there wasn't a drop of lemon. Chocolate
and fruit flavoured cake are my favourite and for some reason I have
always thought that a very chunky nutty bar wouldn't be my thing.
How wrong could I have been? This is by far the standout product in
the whole tin I won!
Funny how even though I've always thought I'd hate things like nutty cakes, I would still always go for almond
or hazelnut based ones and think nothing of it, but still running a mile at walnuts, pecans or anything slightly bobbly looking. I guess I
have only seen them in the nut bowl at Christmas as a child and their look made me steer clear!
This bar had that wonderful Honeybuns
shortbread which is present in a number of their products, buttery and crumbles in the mouth, just thinking about it
is making my mouth water! This is topped with that typical Nan's
style caramel that I found the millionaires shortbread had too. Pecans, coconut and chocolate chips were then sunk into this. The
combination was amazing! The mixture of sweet and savoury flavours
and textures blended well and complimented one another. This bar
reminded me of a rocky road with a nutty twist.
The bar pictured is the regular sized slice which
retails at £1.70. Like all their try bakes, you are able to buy
multiple sizes. I have said before that the mini's are my
favourite as I cannot eat too much cake in one go, but if this was a
mini I think I would have felt a bit short changed as I love it so
much.
This bar does set you back quite a few
calories though, a whopping 470 to be exact, hence why I have
moved on to americano as a coffee treat! I must admit it was worth every morsel. Honestly it was just as well I didn't have a full tray bake, or a lot more would have been eaten.
Now I have found Honeybuns cakes it is going to make comparing products tricky as I will always compare them to theirs, which I feel are on a par to good home cooking that includes gluten! Fantastic for us gluten free lot who like a cake well baked!

M&S Free From Scotch Egg
Another M&S find today but a savoury one to make a change. Spotting these was another squeal in the shop moment!
Now these were found and photoed on my twitter a good few weeks ago but I have only just got around to singing and shouting on here about them. I know you all may be a bit M&S overloaded from me recently as they are not always that accessible, but since mine opened locally I have been completely converted, particularly as most of their food is gluten free as they use a lot of corn flour. Even the sausages are gluten free!
Obviously this is one of those items, try as they might, they cannot make the regular ones gluten free because of the bread crumbs. So catering to us and our junk food needs makes me super happy!
These eggs retail at around £1.60-£2 which I think is great as this is the same price as the regular versions. They even include most of the free from versions of products in the buy 3 for £5 mix and match style deals. At around 300 calories they are rather calorific, but this is to be expected for a product of this nature.
The scotch egg itself is made up of a bread crumb outer, which in all honesty was the same as how I remember the breadcrumbs on regular scotch eggs. Followed by the typical sausage meat style coating, which too had the same taste and texture I remember, then finally a free range egg. I would also like to highlight, all the eggs and egg based products I have found in M&S have been free range. This is something very important to me, as I try my hardest to buy products with free range eggs when I can. Being gluten free it is not always clear if the eggs used in products are free range or not and if they aren't it may be my only option at the time but it is a concern of mine.
These eggs taste just how I remember a scotch egg and were fantastic with a plain salad for lunch. I was hoping there would be the smaller picnic eggs on offer as they are easier to snack on, but you can't have everything! I'd rather a fresh gluten free sausage roll was released as a picnic egg and savoury egg are not too dissimilar anyway.
Overall I really enjoyed these eggs and I am so happy that the supermarkets are starting to see that us celiacs want fresh ready food and 'party' food. We love junk food as much as the next person!

Snackly open Box - May 2015
The most wonderful time of the month is when my lovely post lady bounds into my office saying it's snack day! (Yes she really does do that!)
I have to say opening this box and seeing the contents has made me reject my comment of a couple of months back being the best box ever, because this box knocks the socks off that one!
Another beautiful postcard has been designed in this box with a nice write up on the back, I do really love this new aspect of the box.
So what did I get?
Another Honeybuns product this month! I have tried this product only last week when I won a box of goodies. A review is written and will be up soon. Let me just say I wouldn't say no to another! The lemon sponge combined with the ginger shortbread makes a flavour I really enjoy. All Honeybuns products are unique and super tasty and I would say that out of all the brands I have tried, this is the only one where all have been a hit!
If you are interested in trying Honeybuns, they have a Tinker Tuesday giveaway every week, and this week they will also be giving away one of my HannahMade silver plated bird set with their amazing cookies! Don't forget to take a look!
I finally got some crisps in my box! I missed out on one months box which had some Kent crisps in and I was hoping more crisps may be featured soon! So now there is some in my box, I couldn't be happier as it is my favourite snack! I have never tried Darling Spuds before, but I do appreciate a good salted crisps. So I am excited to see what these are like!
We had one of these in a box a while back. This product is gluten and dairy free so is a good treat for most people. I took this to eat out before and being the bad blogger I am, I didn't take any photos and I can't actually remember how it tasted as it was around Christmas where I ate the house! I am very happy to have another to try and review it properly!
What's a snackly box without a bit of chocolate! Cranberries and orange is one of my favourite juice combinations so I think this chocolate will be right up my street. Particularly as dark chocolate is my favourite variety. This product is vegan and contains no nuts!
Another Fudge this month. This time from Fudge Kitchen. Coincidentally I have been eating raspberries like they are going out of fashion this week, so a raspberry flavoured sweet treat should be perfect on Friday. Fudge is one of my boyfriends guilty pleasures, so I may try it with him and do a double review!
Unfortunately one of my little bites got cracked in the post but it'll still taste the same! These dairy and gluten free gingerbread bites look perfect for a cup of coffee. I'm just hoping they are not too ginger spicy as I am a bit of a wimp!
I hope you all enjoy your Snackly box this month too!

Coeliac Awareness Week - Things I'm always Asked!
To celebrate coeliac awareness week I thought I would do a few different posts this week. Second one for this week is things I'm always asked about gluten intollarences, or 'gluten belly' as my boyfriend calls it!
Are you sure you can't eat it?
Yes I'm sure, even if it is baked with love, if there is wheat I can't eat!
A little bit won't hurt surely?
Yes a little bit will hurt... a lot!
What about a cheat day?
I don't need any more tempting, I miss warm doughnuts, french stick and garlic bread enough without you reminding me!
You basically can't eat anything!
Well I can eat, just not everything you can, and to answer the question I get asked the most, fruit, veg and unprocessed meat are gluten free!
Doesn't everything gluten free taste rubbish?
Well no. Yes I have eaten some shocking things in my time when I had to switch to a free from diet but some gluten free brands are so amazing at producing quality free from products. Hence why I started this blog so I could share my findings, good or bad with everyone.
What is it like/what happens when you are 'glutened'?
If I told you, you would wish you'd never asked!
Isn't having home cooked family meals hard?
This is one thing that hasn't been a huge issue as it is quite easy to make things gluten free. Although now my sister is a veggie, things can get interesting!
Eating out must be a nightmare!
In short, yes, but there are many gluten free menu's from places such as La Tasca, Frankie and Benny's and GBK so I tend to target 'safe' places and people do understand.
Do you miss gluten?
If you mean do I miss the effects it has on me, then no, but if you mean do you want to sink in that huge plate of pasta on the buffet table... then yes!
You must be so miserable!
No, being gluten free in a funny way has made me much more social. I discuss it with people I meet who ask about things I do, also I connect with people online who are also gluten free. It's exciting when finding fantastic free from food and sharing this on my blog is something that makes me so happy. When I hear people that have benefited or tried something new because I found a gem I feel I have made someone's life a bit tastier! Particularly when they tell me they are new to free from food and have no idea where to start.
I would love to know some questions/statements you face all the time!

Honeybuns - Amondi Cookie
Always say - "Amondi Please" when ordering your coffee. So I did, with my Amondi in my bag I trotted down to costa to get my decaf americano. I used to be latte girl but with my new cake and coffee habit, I have to cut the calories somewhere!
This rather large cookie has a crispy outside and a softer middle, similar to american style cookies. Made up of both hazelnut and almond, this sweet cookie is perfect dunked in a coffee. There is no gluten or dairy ingredients so is fantastic for dairy suffers too, but does contain eggs.
The ingredients are very simple and consists of: hazelnuts, sugar, free range eggs, hazelnuts, orange zest, orange oil and icing sugar. Good simple ingredients and fully understandable. You may have also noticed the free range eggs! Always pleases me to see this, considering I have a number of pets, I do care a lot about our furry, fluffy and feathered friends!
The biscuit itself is another very unique free from product as it reminds me of something you would see in a typical bakery or even in a supermarkets finest brand. Any product that makes me feel like I have a 'normal' diet I really enjoy.
The grainier texture absorbed the coffee well and honestly was the best coffee treat I have had in ages. Suspended in the cookie was orange peel which gave an interesting zesty twist to a typical sweet ammaretti style biscuit. Who knew coffee and orange went together so well! The bitter coffee juxtaposed the sweet zesty and nutty flavours creating a beautiful complex flavour. The icing glaze and almond on the cookie was also a nice touch.
Retailing at £1.50 per cookie I find that this is very reasonable as this is typically what you could pay in a coffee shop for a mainstream version. However this is not bulked with dietary restrictive wheat flour which makes the other brands versions cheaper to manufacture, as I have found nuts and nut flours are considerably more expensive.
I can see why this is another award winning product for Honeybuns. Holding a great taste gold award '07 proudly on its packaging. I thoroughly enjoyed this cookie and is nice to see a free from cookie that is not a chocolate flavour. Don't get me wrong I LOVE chocolate but it does make a nice change when I am not in a chocolate mood!

Love at First Bake - Red Pepper and Parmesan muffins
A savoury bake today! Love at First Bake have come up trumps again! When I had my Birthday cake from them I knew I had been converted and would always go back. So when my sisters came around we ordered a cake. Love at first bake were kind enough to ask if I wanted to try their savoury muffins at the same time and this is what arrived!
First thing I notice about these muffins are that they are HUGE. I honestly didn't expect them to be so large. They are also very filling so are worth the £2.50 each. When opening the box the aroma of these muffins filled the room, so I strongly suggest not opening them at work. Unless you want puppy dog eyes at you all afternoon from hungry colleagues!
Not only do these smell amazing but they look so appealing, a crispier top with red pepper and parmesan sprinkled over. I have to admit the top to a muffin is always by far my favourite bit and this one did not let me down.
Once in the muffin the texture is much drier than a sweet muffin, which is what I expected. There was some melted parmesan in the middle which I believe had a secondary purpose as a binding agent as well as to amplify the flavour. The crumbly texture is fantastic with some soft cheese as this binds it together well and enhances the flavours. I would say that eating a whole muffin alone would be a bit heavy going and honestly I don't think that is the intention. I found using it as more of a side for a pasta dish or soup, very much like a tear and share flavoured bread was delicious.
Tomato soup was this muffins perfect pairing and the crumbliness really worked to its advantage for this. The pieces that were left from dipping had absorbed into the soup, making the most beautiful peppery, herby, cheesy, tomato goodness!
There is also very good quality ingredients used and being a smaller business, they do not have the same buying power that brands like Genius do. But saying that, you wouldn't get quality like this from supermarket free from brands!
I overall really enjoyed this muffin and would completely recommend it. I know £10 plus P&P is a daunting thought for 4 muffins, but I can assure you these could easily feed 8 as part of a meal because they are so large. These would be great for a free from dinner party and I think you're guests would leave very impressed!

M&S Free From - Cheddar Cheese Ploughman's Sandwich
Buying my lunch at work is a regular occurrence since the opening of the M&S food hall. Although my store has yet to put the free from sandwiches in the shop, they do have them in the cafe and when purchasing them they leave them wrapped. So I purchased one from the cafe and wandered back to work to eat it.
If you cast your mind back to about a year ago when Tesco announced that they were teaming up with genius to bring us a huge range of free from sandwiches. I only ever managed to find one reduced one in the numerous Tesco's I went to. The one I did find was the cheese and ham ploughman's so is perfect to compare. See my thoughts on the Tesco sandwich here.
Minus the ham, this sandwich was incredibly similar. The bread was a slightly drier consistency but was in no way a dry bread that is hard to eat. Inside the sandwich there was of course the cheese, a layer of lettuce, some slices of tomato and sweet pickle. I found the sweet pickle was my favourite part of the sandwich as I love pickles and this one in particular was sweet but slightly vinegary in flavour, complementing the cheese beautifully. The flavouring reminded me much more of a chutney rather than a pickle, making it a little more luxurious.
I found that the only thing I would prefer is a bit more salad in my sandwich. I am aware I do like ALOT of salad in my sandwiches and the loose packaging on these sandwiches may leave them falling apart if too much salad was added. I just picked up a bit of fruit and cucumber on the side which suited my craving anyway!
I would 100% have this sandwich again but I would rather wait until it is in store, as I believe that they will be cheaper, as all the items seem to be a bit more expensive in the cafe compared to the food hall as they are expecting you to eat in.
Nevertheless I am glad that some free from sandwiches are accessible to me again. As you cannot quite make a sandwich the same as a pre packed one, no matter how hard you try!

Honeybuns Bakery - Chocolate Caramel Shortbread
For sweet treat Friday... Well lets face it
I've had my sweet treats more often than Friday's recently. But I
guess you only live once! So when life presents you with gluten free cake, you must eat it!
I had the Mini Chocolate Caramel Shortbread from Honeybuns, which is the same concept of a mainstream millionaires
shortbread. You may have seen earlier in the week I
won a box of goodies from them. I have to admit the more I try, the harder it is to choose my favourite!
This slice is made up of layers,
starting with a polenta base, which is very much like the mainstream equivalent. That
slight crumble is present but with no dryness. There is nothing worse than a
true biscuit base as I find it too crunchy compared
to the other textures. Next is a good thick layer of caramel,
the only thing I can compare it to is the caramel my nan uses in her
recipes. It was truly a blast back to my childhood! Thick and rich but not too overpowering or sickly. The last layer
was two types of chocolate, beautifully rich and decadent. The chocolate has been mixed with rapeseed oil to give some softness then topped with a light chocolate dusting. I found this solidified the top slightly, so there was a two chocolate layer effect. With a slightly harder chocolate on top and a softer one underneath. Neither chocolate was ridged but the differing textures are interesting and really make these stand out from the crowd.
Retailing at £1.05 for this mini I
find is good value for the quality and taste. I am just glad I only
had a mini otherwise being the chocoholic I am, I think I could have
eaten half a tray bake in one sitting! These slices are suitable for
home freezing and with free delivery when spending over £25 you can stock up in one order!
